Meet Eric (The Reverend Bike Smith) Smith.

Eric Smith moved to Bend as a High School student in the mid 80’s, he found mountain biking and his obsession began…

Eric worked as a tech at Century Cycles in the early 90’s and knew from then on that he wanted to be involved with bikes forever. In 1996 he leased a space downtown on Bond that wasn’t much bigger than a closet. Bend Cyclery started in this location as a service only shop, with Eric being the sole owner and employee. Shortly after opening he became an authorized Kona bikes dealer and carried a handful of bikes (literally no more than 5 at a time). Bend Cyclery quickly out grew this tiny location and moved in with what was known as Bend Ski and Board Sport (now Aspect Boards and Brews). This location offered a bit more space and allowed some expansion and variety related to product and bike models. 2006 rolled around rather quickly and it was time for yet another expansion. Bend Cyclery then moved off of Century to a slightly larger spot and grew rapidly from there. In 2012 we became an authorized Norco dealer, now carrying two brands and loads of product in a 600 square foot location we found ourselves setting up 5 pop up tents and rolling out 60-100 bikes everyday. This was incredibly impractical and excessive so we decided that it was time for yet another expansion…

He moved for the fourth time and opened March of 2014 in the current location. When looking for a new location, he wanted somewhere that he could build the shop he had been dreaming about. He had a few goals in mind and set out to find the perfect spot. It turned out that the ideal spot was about 50 feet outside the back door of the old location so he went for it. He drew out the blue prints which included a huge ‘L’ shaped bar with bar stools, free beer flowing through a bicycle, a big screen T.V., plenty of room for bikes and product, and room for customers to feel comfortable hanging out.
